Fast & Furious 9: Trailer, Plot, Release Date & News to Know About F9

Fast And Furious 9: Release Date, Cast, Plot, And Everyhting You ...

Dominic Toretto and the family are back for another bout of action and adventure in Fast & Furious 9. And while Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw are missing from the crew, more have joined in their place, with both new characters and familiar faces joining the fray.

So, with the release date pushed back and nothing to hold onto but a trailer, let's look at everything we know about Fast & Furious 9 so far.

F9 finds Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto leading a quiet life with Letty and his son, Brian. However, a new threat is coming in the form of someone from Dom's past. The crew will come together again to stop a plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever come up against: Dom’s brother, Jakob. On top of that, Ludacris has teased that the franchise may be heading for the stars in its ninth installment.

The official trailer for F9 dropped on January 31, 2019, showing the Toretto brothers seeing each other face to face for the first time in years, and getting in high-stakes dust-ups all over the world, including the streets of London. Of course, the trailer highlighted the various vehicles that will show up in the film, from a combination tank/tractor-trailer to a magnetic plane to even a rocket car. The final part of the trailer also revealed the return of fan-favorite character Han, returning to the franchise after his apparent death in Fast & Furious 6/Tokyo Drift.

F9 began filming on June 24, 2019, in Hertfordshire, England, continuing through November of that year. Other filming locations include London, Los Angeles, Edinburgh and the country of Georgia. The ninth installment also took filming to Thailand for the first time in the franchise's history.

Nearly all of the main crew from The Fate of the Furious return for F9, including Vin Diesel (Dominic Toretto), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz), Tyrese Gibson (Roman Pearce), Ludacris (Tej Parker) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Ramsey). Jordana Brewster will make her first appearance in the franchise since 2015's Furious 7, returning as Dom's sister, Mia Toretto. Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren will also return as Cipher and Magdalene Shaw, respectively, who debuted in the last Fast film. Sung Kang will rejoin the crew as Han Lue, who was assumed to have been killed by Deckard Shaw.

Fast and Furious 9: Vin Diesel and John Cena are together on the ...

John Cena makes his debut in the franchise as Jakob, Dom and Mia's brother who has been recruited by Cipher to kill his family. Other new characters include Michael Rooker as Buddy and Cardi B as Leysa, the latter of whom shares a past with Dom. Bow Wow and Jason Tobin will reprise their roles from Tokyo Drift as Twinkie and Earl Hu, respectively. Additionally, Anna Sawai, Finn Cole, Vinnie Bennett, Ozuna and Francis Ngannou have been cast in undisclosed roles.

F9 will also see the return of Justin Lin to the franchise as director. Lin previously helmed the third through seventh films in the series, helping bring it into the bonafide box office hit it is today. He has disclosed that he partially came back to the franchise to bring "Justice for Han."

In February 2016, Vin Diesel initially announced that F9 would release on April 19, 2019. However, that date was pushed back due to the release of Hobbs & Shaw on May 22, 2020. When the coronavirus pandemic began to take hold in the United States, Universal Pictures decided to push back the release date nearly a full year to April 2, 2021.

A tenth Fast & Furious film has already been planned and announced to release on April 1, 2022. It will allegedly serve as the final film in the "Fast Saga," and will see Justin Lin return as director. Vin Diesel said the film may be divided into two parts and serve as a concluding trilogy alongside F9. Diesel also revealed earlier this year he was reviewing scripts for a possible female spin-off to come once the saga ends.

Directed by Justin Lin, F9 stars Vin Diesel, John Cena, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang, with Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Cardi B. The film arrives in theaters April 2, 2021.
