Twitter suspends fake accounts claiming to be black Trump supporters

Twitter has suspended several accounts posing as black supporters of Donald Trump ahead of the 3 November presidential election.

The social media platform hasn’t specified how many accounts were taken down, but the company told the Washington Post that the accounts in question violated their rules of spam and platform manipulation.

According to the Post, Clemson University social media researcher Darren Linvill tracked and found more than two dozen similar accounts that collectively had 265,000 retweets or Twitter mentions. Many of these accounts had gained quick popularity online and posted identical content, including phrases like ‘YES I AM BLACK AND IM VOTING FOR TRUMP’ and the #BlacksForTrump hashtag.

It was also found that a few of them had thousands of followers and used profile photos of black people who have appeared in news stories, as well as identical images of Donald Trump in their headers.

Linvill told Reuters most of these accounts were created in 2017, but they have become more active now with the presidential election drawing closer. The researcher said he “cannot determine the origins of the accounts at this point”, but that the evidence pointed towards foreign origins of the accounts.

Linvill suggested Twitter’s actions came too late. "It doesn’t matter if Twitter’s shutting you down in four days," he said, "they’ve already had their impact.”

Twitter spokesperson Trenton Kennedy said Twitter took down some of the network identified by Linvill.

"Our teams are working diligently to investigate this activity and will take action in line with the Twitter Rules if tweets are found to be in violation.”

Twitter, like other social media platforms, has rules against spamming and manipulation techniques that can have an impact on public perception. The move becomes all the more relevant because the US elections are just three weeks away.

GOOGLE CREATES 'WORLD'S LARGEST EARTHQUAKE DETECTION NETWORK' BY LINKING ALL ANDROID PHONES

GOOGLE CREATES 'WORLD'S LARGEST EARTHQUAKE DETECTION NETWORK' BY LINKING ALL ANDROID PHONES

Google has created the “world’s largest earthquake detection network” by allowing all Android phones to function as miniature seismometers.

The technology giant announced that the new functionality goes live this week, linking millions of smartphones together to form the Android Earthquake Alerts System.

“Starting today, your Android phone can be part of the Android Earthquake Alerts System, wherever you live in the world,” Marc Stogaitis, principal software engineer at Android, wrote in a post.

“This means your Android phone can be a mini seismometer, joining millions of other Android phones out there to form the world’s largest earthquake detection network.”

It works by making use of accelerometers – a tiny device found in all smartphones that sense motion and velocity in order to track the device’s orientation.

The network calibrates a phone’s accelerometer to detect early signals that indicate an earthquake might be happening.

If a phone detects an earthquake it sends a signal to a Google server, together with the device’s location when the shaking took place.

By combining multiple signals, the network can analyse the severity of an earthquake and send alerts to phones in areas that may be affected, giving people a few seconds warning to get themselves to safety if needed.

“We’re essentially racing the speed of light (which is roughly the speed at which signals from a phone travel) against the speed of an earthquake,” Mr Stogaitis wrote. “And lucky for us, the speed of light is much faster!”

Android is the most popular mobile operating system in the world, used by manufacturers like Samsung and Sony.

At its annual developer conference last year, Google announced that there were now 2.5 billion active Android devices, having passed the 2 billion milestone in 2017.

Such a vast userbase allowed Google to negate the costly and time-consuming process of installing a ground network of seismometers.

Google’s home state of California, which is prone to severe earthquakes, already has more than 700 seismometers installed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

These seismometers help power the state’s ShakeAlert earthquake detection system, which will now be integrated into Android's system as part of a partnership between Google and the USGS.

“This announcement means that California’s world-class earthquake early warning system will be a standard function on every Android phone — giving millions precious seconds to drop, cover and hold on when the Big One hits," said California Governor Gavin Newsom.

HARMONYOS: HUAWEI LAUNCHES NEW OPERATING SYSTEM TO TAKE ON ANDROID AND IOS

HARMONYOS: HUAWEI LAUNCHES NEW OPERATING SYSTEM TO TAKE ON ANDROID AND IOS

Huawei has announced that HarmonyOS, the company’s alternative to Google’s commercial Android, will be coming in 2021.

At Huawei’s developer conference in Shenzhen, Huawei said that the operating system is available to developers of smartwatches, cars, and TVs starting from today.

A version of HarmonyOS for smartphones will be available to developers at the end of the year.

The operating system was first announced in 2019.

Its apparent ability to work across various platforms and devices makes it "completely different from Android and iOS", according to Huawei CEO Richard Yu, who said it will also be completely open source.

"You can develop your apps once, then flexibly deploy them across a range of devices," he said at the time.

The Chinese technology giant has also said it is launching OpenHarmony, allowing developers to build on an open-source version of the operating system.

This is similar to the Android Open Source Project - a version of Android that does not have Google’s commercial apps like YouTube or the Play Store – which is the foundation for Amazon’s Fire tablets and Huawei’s smartphones such as the P40 Pro Plus.

Currently, it is unclear what benefits HarmonyOS will have over Google’s Android service.

The company’s EMUI 11 software – a layer over open source Android – will likely prove the basis of the operating system.

It currently allows for quick file transfer between Huawei smartphones and laptops, mirroring your phone screen to external displays such as televisions, and has its own voice assistant called Celia.

HarmonyOS will offer interoperability between devices made by Huawei and those made by Honor – a Huawei subsidiary.

In 2019, Huawei debuted the Honor Vision and Honor Vision Pro, two televisions which ran the first version of HarmonyOS.

Huawei has had to develop its own operating system due to restrictions placed on the company by president Donald Trump.

The order, called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, was implemented in May 2019.

The result of the order, which has now been extended until May 2021, meant that Google cannot provide Huawei with access to Google Mobile Services and therefore popular apps such as Maps and YouTube are not available on Huawei phones.

The reasons for such a ban are similar to those aimed at TikTok and WeChat: concerns over national security, which the Chinese firms have denied, mired in geopolitical and economic conflict between the US and China.

GOOGLE LAUNCHES NEST AUDIO, A NEW SMART SPEAKER FOCUSED ON SOUND

GOOGLE LAUNCHES NEST AUDIO, A NEW SMART SPEAKER FOCUSED ON SOUND

Google has revealed its Nest Audio, a smart speaker for the home.

The speaker replaces the Google Home, which first arrived in 2016. It has gone through a number of revisions since then, but the update brings a complete redesign and puts in a new shape.

The new Nest Audio will sit alongside the much smaller Home Mini, the much larger Home Max, and the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max, which both have screens.

Google's introduction of the Nest Audio focused on its music quality, and the company claimed that it has "top-of-the-range sound quality".

It also comes wrapped in a soft material, unlike the plastic of the Google Home it replaces. Google said it is made of 70 per cent recycled materials. The Nest Audio costs £89 and will be available from 15 October. Unlike other products announced during Google's "Launch Night In" event, it will not be available for pre-order.

It comes in two colours: Chalk and Charcoal, or light and dark grey.

Google unveiled the new phones at its “Launch Night In” event, where it also showed a reimagined new Chromecast and its first 5G phones.

Cardi B accidentally leaks nude photo on Instagram: ‘I’m not going to beat myself up about it’

Cardi B is berating herself after accidentally sharing a nude photo to her 77 million Instagram followers on Tuesday morning (13 October).

The rapper, who is currently celebrating her 28th birthday in Las Vegas, immediately removed the picture and, addressing the mistake in a Twitter voice note, she said: ‘”Lord, why the f*** you have to make me so f***ing stupid? Why, why, why?”

Determined to move on from the incident, she added:  “You know what, I’m not going to beat myself up about it. I’m just going to eat my breakfast and then I’m going to go to the party.

“I am not going to think about it… No, I won’t. It is what it is. S*** happened. F*** it, it’s not even the first time.  I used to be a stripper so whatever. Ay, dios mio.”

The “WAP” rapper is not the first celebrity to accidentally leak a nude photo in recent weeks.

Last month, Avengers star Chris Evans accidently shared an explicit image on Instagram.

In a TV interview after the blunder, Evans said that he had experienced “an interesting weekend,” which was “full of lessons learned, lots of teachable moments.”

“Things happen. It’s embarrassing. You’ve got to roll with the punches,” he added.

FACEBOOK THREATENS TO BAN USERS FROM SHARING NEWS AS FIGHT WITH AUSTRALIAN REGULATORS INTENSIFIES

FACEBOOK THREATENS TO BAN USERS FROM SHARING NEWS AS FIGHT WITH AUSTRALIAN REGULATORS INTENSIFIES

Facebook has said it will 'reluctantly stop allowing publishers and people in Australia from sharing local and international news on Facebook and Instagram.'

Facebook has said that it will block both local and international news from being shared on its platforms in Austrlia if new legislation is passed.

The new rules would require technology companies such as Facebook and Google to pay publishers such as news organisations for content.

In a blog post published , Facebook said Australia’s regulation “misunderstands the dynamics of the internet and will do damage to the very news organisations the government is trying to protect.”

The proposed legislation would allow news companies to bargain either individually or collectively with Google and Facebook about payment for inclusion of news content on its services.

It “seeks to address the fundamental bargaining power imbalance between Australian news media businesses and major digital platforms”, according to its proponents. That power imbalance “resulted in news media businesses accepting less favourable terms for the inclusion of news on digital platform services than they would otherwise agree to", they claim.

If the draft proposal becomes law, Facebook has said it will “reluctantly stop allowing publishers and people in Australia from sharing local and international news on Facebook and Instagram.”

“This is not our first choice – it is our last. But it is the only way to protect against an outcome that defies logic and will hurt, not help, the long-term vibrancy of Australia’s news and media sector,” it said.

Facebook argues that the law “seeks to regulate every aspect of how tech companies do business with news publishers”, that publishers voluntarily place content on their platforms, and that news “represents a fraction of what people see in their News Feed”.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) which is proposing the law, says that over one-third of Facebook users reported using the social media site to access news.

It also says that Google placed a Top Stories carousel of headlines and snippets in response to up to 14 per cent of search queries, and therefore argues that both companies value and benefit from surfacing news content.

Google published an open letter about the law, which claimed that it would “dramatically worse Google Search and YouTube, could lead to your data being handed over to big news businesses, and would put the free services you use at risk in Australia.”

The ACCC said Google’s letter “contains misinformation” and that Google “will not be required to charge Australians for the use of its free services such as Google Search and YouTube, unless it chooses to do so.”

“A healthy news media sector is essential to a well-functioning democracy”, it continued.

Facebook and Google have unparalleled dominance in many countries. In the UK, people spend a third of their time using platforms owned by either Google, such as YouTube, or Facebook, such as Instagram.

This is not the first time countries have tried to push Google and Facebook to pay for the news on their platform. In 2014, Google said its news product, Google News, would not operate in Spain ahead of a law requiring the search company to pay for linked content or snippets of news.

In 2018, the European Union proposed “Article 11”, otherwise known as a “link tax”, which would make tech companies like Google and Facebook to pay to use news content on their sites. Heavy backlash against the regulation saw it eventually voted down.

Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for coronavirus

Cristiano Ronaldo tests positive for coronavirus

The 35-year-old Portugal striker is said to be 'doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation'

Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for Covid-19, Portugal's Football Federation confirmed on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old is said to be "doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation", with no further positive tests reported in the squad ahead of Wednesday's Uefa Nations League match against Sweden.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward Ronaldo had played in both of Portugal's matches so far during the international break.

Ronaldo started against Spain in Lisbon, coming off late in the second half of the goalless draw, and then played the whole of the Nations League A3 fixture against France in Saint-Denis on Sunday.

The 35-year-old had scored in each of his Serie A appearances this season, including a brace in the 2-2 draw against Roma on September 27.

Ronaldo is now set to miss Juve's Serie A trip to Crotone on Saturday and their Champions League group stage opening game away to Dynamo Kiev next Tuesday.

He is also a doubt for Juventus' match with Barcelona on October 28, which was set to was set go head-to-head once again with his old rival Lionel Messi.

Ronaldo is the highest-profile footballer to test positive for Covid-19, which has killed over a million people since the start of the pandemic earlier this year.

Brazil forward Neymar, his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe and AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic have also tested positive for the virus in recent weeks.

Portugal currently has 89,121 reported cases of Covid-19 with 2,110 deaths and 54,047 recovered. Its population is approximately 10.1 million.

The country initially won praise for its quick response to the pandemic, but, like most other European countries, has seen the number of infections rise again, concentrated in Lisbon and the country’s northern region, after a summer lull.

Man narrates his encounter with SARS how they boast of random killings

Please be careful, advice our youth and teens to delete any End SARS pictures on their phone and they should not wear any shirt or paraphernalia that suggest End SARS. All will be well.

Just as I left the hospital.

Before I got to the intersection.

They pulled before us in a black Toyota Sienna.

Blocking us from moving further.

These men.

In black and blue jeans.

And black tight t-shirts.

Heavily armed.

Sunglasses as usual.

Climbed out of the vehicle.

My driver exhaled heavily.

"These people again."

Eight men.

Two moved toward the Taxify.

Gun raised.

Cocking their rifles as though they had caught some criminals.

I sat calmly.

If you are a young man who frequents Taxify or Uber in Lagos, you'd probably get used to that embarrassment.

I had nothing with me just my phone.

And the medication I had gotten from the hospital.

I was so weak.

Massive headache.

While they approached I asked my driver.

"Who are those guys?"

"Haaa. Bros, na SARS o."

I said.

"I thought they have banned these guys?"

He looked at me.

"For wia. Na today?"

I sighed.

The two approached one on each side of the car. I kept my hands in plain sight and made no sudden moves.

One of the men shouted at my driver.

"You no go wind down? Abi you want us to beg you?"

The Taxify driver quickly hit the window button as he screamed forcing a smile.

"Aaah officer of the law no vex, sir! I throw way salute."

The one who had shouted approached my window.

I was looking away.

He shouted.

"Oga, you no dey greet person abi you no see us?"

I slowly turned my head and looked at him.

"Officer, good afternoon, sir."

"Afternoon. Who are you?"

I was about to answer.

He shouted.

"Oga, come down?!"

One of his folks standing a few steps away shouted.

"Who be dis person wey no dey hear us? Na one of those protesters? Devil go welcome am for hell now if he be one of those protesters."

He cocked his gun and approached my Taxify.

It was a lonely road.

No onlookers.

A few cars passed by the other side of the lane.

I gently got down from the car.

I greeted again.

Both of them.

"Officers, good afternoon, sir."

My driver came out and said.

"Na my passenger! I pick am from that hospital down the road."

The one who had asked me who I am shouted at him.

"Shut up! Did we ask you anything? You dey mad? Your moda!"

Then he turned to me.

"Oga, who are you?"

"My name is Kyrian Chiemelie, sir."

"What do you do? Wetin dey your pocket?"

"I am a writer, sir."

"Journalist?"

"No, sir. Author, scriptwriter, filmmaker, sir."

"Oga, wetin dey your pocket?"

"My phone, sir."

"Bring it out."

I dug out my phone.

"Unlock it."

"Why?"

The other one shouted attracting the rest, pointing his gun at him.

"You are asking us questions? Are you stupid?"

I said.

"No, sir. But none of you has the right to search my phone. I didn't do anything wrong."

One shouted, running toward us.

"Who dey yarn that rubbish? Na one of the protesters? Shoot the modafuvker!"

The other one said.

"We never know na when we search him phone we go know."

The Taxify driver said to me.

"Please, unlock your phone. You know what is going on already."

The one pointing rifle at me shouted.

Eyes widened.

Dark lips.

Unsmiling face.

"Oga, unlock your phone for the last time!"

As I used my fingerprint he snatched my phone from me immediately.

Handed it to the last folk who approached us.

He seemed to be the leader.

He started to go through my phone as he said.

"What did you say you do again?"

"I am a filmmaker, sir."

"Actor?"

I shook my head.

"Basically writing."

He looked at me.

"You look tired."

I said.

"I just dey come back from the hospital. The one down there."

"Wetin dey do you? COVID-19?"

"No, sir. Na stress and little sickness. My doctor has given me some tablets, I will be fine in a couple of days."

As he scrolled through my phone the others watched.

Gun pointed up, down. A few at me.

I remained chilled.

He asked.

"And you are not one of the end SARS protesters."

I remained silent.

One of them moved toward me as though he wanted to hit me his rifle.

I dodged.

"Oga, dey ask you, you dey ignore am."

The man said.

"Leave am. Make I see end SARS pictures on his phone first and he is gone with the gun."

I was still silent.

A few minutes later.

One said to the one with my phone.

"Oga, did you see any pictures of end SARS on his phone?"

"I never see one."

I said.

"Sir, can I go, please? There is nothing on my phone."

He looked at me.

"Are you teaching us our job?"

"Not at all, sir. But there is nothing on my phone. My doctor said I should not stand too long."

Two laughed.

"You dey tell us na. We wey no get doctor make we die. We wey dey use chamist cure our infection and malaria."

I didn't say a word.

One of them approached me and showed me some images on his phone.

Dead bodies.

Fresh corpses of youth, both male and female.

Lying by the bush.

Blood gushing from bullet wounds.

I looked at him, in fear.

He said.

"Shey dem dey shout end SARS we no dey catch anybody again o. But na make we see pictures of end SARS for person phone the person is gone. Dis ones wey you dey see so na some of the protesters o. Shey dey don die like dis? Dey will keep dying."

One shouted at him.

"Why you dey tell am this thing? Why you dey leak our secret? Do you know who he is?"

"Shey he talk say na filmmaker? He won't do anything."

Goosebumps rushed over me.

In actuality of how these guys are killing in reckless abandon.

The one with my phone said.

"I no see anything for him phone. He is free to go."

He handed my phone back to me.

Then said.

I took my phone and said.

"Thank you."

As I headed back to the Taxify, a Lexus Jeep was approaching behind us.

They rushed immediately and flew it to stop.

The Taxify driver got in and we started to drive off.

While I looked behind, watching as they dragged five guys out of the car.

About three wore t-shirts.

Boldly written 'EndSARS'.

The Taxify turned right at the intersection and I couldn't see anymore.

He shouted.

"Ah. These people are in trouble."

But I heard it barely ten seconds later.

It was loud from a distance.

Pooo!

Pooo!!

Pooo!!!

Three gunshots.

Former EU Parliament Member Godfrey Bloom Who Calls Banking System a Scam Bought His First Bitcoin

Former Member of the European Parliament Godfrey Bloom has bought his first bitcoin. The British politician is famed for numerous controversial views, such as calling the entire banking system a scam and the state an institution of theft.

Godfrey Bloom is a British politician who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Yorkshire and the Humber from 2004 to 2014. He was elected for the U.K. Independence Party but later served as an Independent. Bloom has also published six books on military history and the Austrian School of Economics.

The former MEP is well known for his unconventional views, including calling the state an institution of theft and saying that the debt crisis was created by politicians and central bankers. He even said that the whole banking system is a scam, as is global warming. He has been referred to by some as the “British Ron Paul.”

Bloom revealed in a tweet on Thursday that he has bought his first bitcoin. “I make my first purchases of bitcoin this week. Gold & silver have I plenty,” he wrote in response to a tweet that says: “If you asked people if they’d prefer $800 or 800 bitcoin a lot of them would pick the dollars. We’re still early.”

At press time, Bloom has received 257 comments for his bitcoin buy tweet, which has been liked 2.7k times and retweeted 473 times.

With an overwhelming number of responses from the crypto community, the 70-year-old former MEP followed up with another tweet on Friday. “I have had a very significant response to my bitcoin tweet. So an update. I am revising bitcoin over the weekend to know enough to understand what I don’t know. It is my goal to share my experience with fellow oldies keen to diversify out of fiat currencies.”

Below is a video of Bloom informing the European Parliament back in 2013 why he thinks the whole banking system is a scam. Besides telling Parliament members that they did not understand the concept of banking, he said bankers, central bankers, and politicians should be sent to prison for stealing from taxpayers.

This week was not the first time Bloom talked about bitcoin. “I am not anti bitcoin. Just an old geezer more comfortable with gold,” he responded to a tweet urging him to try to get into bitcoin in May. Bloom has long been a gold investor. “I have been buying gold since Gordon Brown was selling it at around $250 per ounce in the 90s. I have accumulated it & stored it in a London safety deposit box. Every now & then I sell a bit at $1550 per ounce,” he shared in September last year.

Since Bloom previously insisted that he was not comfortable with bitcoin, some people assumed that he changed his mind this week when he started purchasing BTC for the first time. However, the British politician clarified that he bought the cryptocurrency to diversity his investments. “Don’t mistake portfolio diversification with changing my mind about anything,” he affirmed. Furthermore, he indicated in response to another tweet that he will not ignore Ethereum and decentralized finance (Defi) in his research.

Donald Trump's doctor says 'recovering' president 'could be discharged tomorrow'

Dr Sean Conley said Donald Trump, 74, was being treated with a steroid and that he had twice struggle with low oxygen levels but said the president was continuing to improve

US President Donald Trump could be discharged from hospital on Monday if he continues to "do really well" as he battles coronavirus, according to his doctor.

Medics held a press conference this afternoon where they said he was continuing to to make steady progress and could return to White House as early as Monday.

However they also revealed the 74-year-old had to be given oxygen at the White House for an hour and had struggled with low oxygen twice as he fights the virus.

They added his liver and kidney was functioning well but avoided commenting on whether Trump had suffered any lung damage.

Trump is on a five-day course of remdesivir - an experimental drug first developed for Ebola.

The news comes amid initial confusion about the state of his health after he was diagnosed with Covid-19.

In the early hours of this morning press secretary Kayleigh McEnany released an official update on Trump's progress stating he was "off supplemental oxygen" but he "not yet of the woods".

The statement said: "President Trump continues to do well, having made substantial progress since diagnosis. This evening he completed his second round of Remdesivir without complication.

"He remains fever free and off supplemental oxygen with a saturation level between 96 and 98% all day. He spent most of the afternoon conducting business, and has been up and moving about the medical suite without difficulty.

"While not yet out of the woods, the team remains cautiously optimistic.

"The plan for tomorrow is to continue observation in between doses of Remdesivir, closely monitoring his clinical status while fully supporting his conduct of Presidential duties."

But on Saturday White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told reporters that Trump had been through a "very concerning" period on Friday and that the next 48 hours would be critical.

7-Year-Old Boy Donates trucks Full of Covid-19 Supplies to South Dakota Reservation...

Cavanaugh Bell is not your ordinary second-grader.

While most of his peers spent their summers relaxing, the 7-year-old from Maryland was hard at work, delivering a trailer full of COVID-19 supplies to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, which is considered to be one of the poorest places in America.

As if that wasn't enough, Bell  — who founded his own nonprofit organization, Cool & Dope, to combat bullying and spread positivity — continued his efforts last week by loading up a 53-foot truck of supplies and delivering them to the reservation

ahead of winter.

″The weather's starting to get cold, plus September is Kids' Suicide Awareness Month, and the Pine Ridge Reservation has the most kids [dying by] suicide,″ Bell tells PEOPLE (the TV Show!). ″I'm just trying to do what's best for them. I'm just trying to make them have a big fat smile on their faces.″

Bell says he initially learned about Pine Ridge after passing through on a road trip back from Colorado in 2018 with his mother.

″We were driving for miles and miles and there was a straight-up nothing,″ he recalls, noting that his mom eventually told him about the reserve. ″I was like, 'Well, maybe we should do something for them since they're in the middle of nowhere.' "

A frosty situation seems to have materialized between two notable Nollywood actors; Mike Ezuruonye and Kunle Afolayan with the former accusing the latter of tribal prejudice.
Apparently, the problem was created by one of Kunle Afolayan’s followers on Instagram when he sent direct mail to the Figurine producer accusing Ezuruonye of scamming women. The moment Afolayan posted the message all hell broke loose as Ezuruonye replied in no kind words. “The small respect I had for you is gone, yes I wrote you that in your sick DM. U touched the wrong guy by posting this on your twitter and Instagram stories…Guy,U buy wrong Market!! “U now acting like u don’t know impersonators are using Actors/Musicians/politicians /celebs fake profiles and videos to Defraud people world over????
